President Donald Trump condemned white supremacy in a press conference Monday following the mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton, Ohio, that took 29 lives and injured scores of others. But Trump stopped far short of calling for tighter gun regulation, instead placing the blame of the recent shootings on mental illness. “We must reform our mental health laws to better identify mentally disturbed individuals who may commit acts of violence and make sure those people not only get treatment, but when necessary, involuntary confinement,“ Trump said. “Mental illness and hatred pulls the trigger, not the gun.” Trump also blamed the Internet and video games as factors at play in the mass shootings.
