The Anavilhanas and Mariua archipelagos consist of more than 1,000 river islands and stretch along a 1,000km stretch of the Rio Negro, deep in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. Thousands of kilometers from the nearest ocean these river islands are unique. Surrounded not by coral reefs and crystal clear waters but by flooded forests and hidden dangers. Flooded for 6 months of the year the islands are a fortress of submerged trees and wandering vines. They are home to some of the most unusual creatures in the world. This is a world like no other where the forest floor becomes the riverbed, fish feed from the treetops, and canopy dwellers are stalked by creatures that lurk beneath.
