A little video explaining the hand stitches most widely used when sewing natural fiber art dolls or other cloth dolls: Back Stitch (and its twin Invisible Back Stitch), Ladder Stitch and Whip/Slip Stitch. In this video I am using knit doll skin fabric, as used in waldorf dollmaking but the stitches apply to other types of sewing and crafts. Time stamps for easy viewing: 0:00 Intro 0:15 Using Back Stitch in Dollmaking, the strongest stitch. 0:38 Ladder Stitch, useful for closing doll body parts with no stitches visible. You can use it for closing openings, attaching the doll neck to the torso, finishing seams, etc. 3:00 Whip Stitch, when made in tiny stitches very useful for awkward areas where you can't use ladder stitch. 5:16 Invisible Back Stitch, a superior and more complicated stitch to strongly join the doll head to the torso, leaving no visible stitches and creating an extremely flat seam. 9:13 Slip Stich, very similar to Whip Stitch, but less visible. #natura
