Aretha Franklin, George Benson, Nancy Wilson, Al Jarreau, & Nnenna Freelon - Mack the Knife

An amazing all-star jazz group joins together on “Mack the Knife“. Aretha Franklin, George Benson, Nancy Wilson, Al Jarreau, and Nnenna Freelon each sing a chorus. Diana Krall does some background scatting, Jon Faddis plays some background lines, Debbie Allen dances, and Bill Cosby sings background and plays bass (although it sounds like his mike is wisely turned off in both cases). Also present are many jazz legends like Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, Jimmy Heath, Randy Brecker, T.S. Monk, and Arturo Sandoval, who join in on the handclaps. Shots of the audience show such spectators as Al Tipper Gore, and, if I’m not mistaken, Rosa Parks. Broadcast in 1997.
