The Fascist dictator of Italy followed Nazi Germany into World War 2, and he gave Hitler his full support, however they were not the most effective nation during the conflict. Mussolini himself was even ousted from power in Italy such was the fall in his popularity, and one of the figures against him was his own son in law, Gian Galeazzo Ciano. Ciano was Mussolini's son in law, and he became his Foreign Minister after marrying Mussolini's daughter Edda. He gained this job through the marriage, but he was a realist who saw the shortfalls of the Italian military.
