This brilliant tv movie from 1995 has never been released on DVD and illegal copies go for high prices, that's why I wanted to share this tv recording. Mr. Carmody is a grumpy old man who's living with his son and his family and has to stay in a hotel when the family goes on a skiing holiday. Wonderful British humour. I think this movie and As good as it Gets are the best romantic comedies ever. Must be the sarcasm, brilliant twists, story development and script, realism and the superb acting. Ackland panicking when he's forced to play “Give us a clue“ and doesn't want to lose and Simmons making fun of him is one of the funniest things, but the fun starts in the second minute when Ackland rolls down his window to look at the hotel with all the disdain he has inside and rolls it back up again. This is a recording from tv. There are some gaps in the sound and some parts have been cut, like “what would you eat but rather not“ and “never underestimate the power of prayer, Mr. Carmody“. Mr. Carmody's answers are: “Dog shit. I'd rather not but if someone offered me a million pounds I probably would“ and “I wouldn't dream of it“.
