Many people (or I darely say “most people“) misunderstood Alkan composed mainly virtuoso pieces like “Twelve Etudes in a Minor Key“ , “Grande Sonate“ and “Le Preux“ It's not. especially in his later years after 1859, he composed many chants (, , ) and small scaled sketch set pieces called “Esquisses“() and if you are talking about early years, well, its partially right but not necessarily. Unlike his 1830s-1840s, “Nocturn in B Major“ does not featured extreme technique rather he showed it how beautiful and relaxing melodies can be written. It seems that Alkan really loves nocturnal typed music because he wrote another little known set piece “2 Noctures“ in his later years ( both composed and published in 1859). Still, I love more the former composed one. Performer : Jack Gibbons
