'The Queen's Speech: How Elizabeth II's Early Speeches Defined Her Reign' Many will remember Queen Elizabeth’s speeches fondly. Despite her calm and composed demeanour, her compassion and warmth for her subjects in the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth always shone through. These speeches would be a source of solace and comfort for people all over the world. Princess Elizabeth was just 14 years old when she gave her first speech. It was October 1940, during a period of World War Two that Winston Churchill had called the ‘darkest hour’. Thousands of children had been evacuated overseas in the face of the Blitz. While Churchill’s defiant speeches rallied the nation, the young Elizabeth conveyed a message of hope, peace, and a brighter tomorrow. Elizabeth would oversee the transition from Empire to Commonwealth. On her 21st birthday, shortly before she married Prince Phillip, she spoke of this great project, that she believed would lead to a more free and prosperous world. ‘I serve’, this motto would be at the heart of Elizabeth’s long reign. Following the death of her father King George VI in 1952, Elizabeth would give her first Christmas speech. Speaking over the radio from her study at Sandringham, she spoke of the solemn pact of service and duty she would be making with her subjects during her imminent Coronation. At the age of just 25, Elizabeth was crowned Queen. After the Coronation Queen Elizabeth spoke of the loyalty and affection of her subjects, and how it would give her the strength she needed to do her duty. #royalfamily #queen #documentary Follow us for more royal news, history, and highlights: ♛ Subscribe to our brand new show, exclusive to Snapchat - ♛ Subscribe to our YouTube channel (tap the bell icon and stay up to date with all the latest Royal videos!) - ♛ Find us on TikTok @royalfamilychannel ♛ Follow us on Facebook - ♛ Tweet with us! -
