»Im Sommer einundsechzig« is an East German song which is about the building of the Berlin Wall on 13 August 1961. The song justifies the building of the Wall with the alleged danger emanating from West Germany. The text was written by Heinz Kahlau and the music was composed by Wolfgang Lesser. The text of the refrain “Endlich lacht das Morgenrot“ (The dawn is finally there) means that the GDR is finally save after the erection of the wall which was called “Antifaschistischer Schutzwall“ (Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart) by the GDR regime.
