Why we see so many black people on television and so few of Indian heritage

Anybody these days wishing to cast a member of a visible minority in a television drama or film chooses, as the default setting, a person of sub-Saharan African ancestry. Since there are so few such people in the world, it is interesting to ask ourselves why this should be so.
