- Daegu -- one of Korea's largest cities -- is hosting the 2011 IAAF World Championships from August 27th to September 4th. This will be the 13th IAAF World Championships and only the 4th time it's been hosted outside of Europe -- the other three times were in Japan (1991, 2007) and Canada (2001). The IAAF is the International Association of Athletics Federations and it hosts the IAAF World Championships bi-annually (although they started off in 1983 hosting them every four years) on odd years so not to compete with the Olympics. This year the event will be held at Daegu Stadium, with more than 4,000 athletes from over 212 countries worldwide participating.
