Gilad Erdan, Israel’s ambassador to the UN, said he was “immensely proud” to represent “the most moral country in the world” during a Security Council meeting to discuss the ongoing hostilities in Gaza and the Israeli strikes on a school sheltering displaced people on 10 August. Erdan defended Israel’s recent military actions, and accused Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian ambassador to the UN, of representing a “terrorist organisation”. In his closing remarks, Erdan added that Israel “should be praised” as “the vanguard of civilisation”.
