Washington plans to remove Uganda, Central African Republic, Niger and Gabon from the African Growth and Opportunity Act, or AGOA — the U.S. common trading mechanism with Africa. Earlier on, Rwanda quit, and Ethiopia got pushed out. Now, with uncertainty surrounding AGOA’s extension after the 2025 expiration, trade ties remain perched on shaky ground.
