4K Scenic Drive on US Route 66 | Barstow to Amboy, CA

US Route 66 is one of the first US highways established in 1926. It runs from Chicago to Santa Monica, Los Angeles, through six states and was a major route to the West until the interstate highway system took over its role. This drive starts in Barstow, CA, and heads to Amboy. On the way to Amboy, you will spot several black hills in the barren desert. Those are lava fields and scoria cone volcanoes. It will be fun to drive on this road, imagining prehistoric times when those volcanoes were active and modern times when this road was the main road of the USA. The historic road between Chambless and Needles is closed due to road deterioration.
