Okay, so I read My Lady Jane few years back. I loved it immensely. So when I saw that Prime video had a new series named My Lady Jane, I knew I had to watch it. My overall verdict is that the show disappointed me. I know it has been said over and over and probably not cool anymore but “The Book is better“. Now let me explain why. The book's main power is its humoristic tone. Characters are quirky and their dialogues along with stories are chaotic. The narration of the story is so funny and witty that it makes you laugh out loud reading a simple line. Let me give you an example: “G took another gulp, and thought about the best way to break the equestrian news. My dear, you know those four-legged majestical beasts of the land? Well, you married one! No. That could not be the right approach. My sweet, have you ever had a difficult time deciding between man or beast? Well, now you don’t have to!“ The book revolves around funny, lighthearted topics. It's YA. However, the series hae very ADULT scenes- not that it bothers me too much- but it completely changed the plot! Made it about cliche girlbossing, token lgbtq character and token black guy. It felt like a mix of The Boys and The Great (and I'm not saying that because Butcher is in it xD). I expected it to be a comedic twist on the history, but it became a show about Women Oppression and Violence and Tension. (Don't think I hate feminism or sth, but we don't need to retale every stories talking about it. Also, Jane wasn't oppressed in the book like she was shown in the series, so). On top of that, the narration kinda felt jarring to the ear- it didn't have the humorous tone that I expected, instead, it felt like a boomer was trying hard to be a gen alpha. Too many things were happening at once, and it felt like the show couldn't decide on what genre it wanted to be. Sigh. I think it would be lot funnier if we could see Jane fighting with a fry pan and G writing poetry about Jane's eyes. And I don't wanna spoil anything for who haven't read the books, but I liked Jane's escape in the book A LOT better than what was shown in the movies. Also, why so much emphasis on Mary, anyway? It's My Lady Jane, Not My Lady Mary!! Anyway, The best part about this series is G and Jane's chemistry. Loved it so much!
