Situation at Mali (9/2/2024) 🇲🇱 The situation in the north of the country has hardly changed since December. The recapture of Aguelhok allowed the FAM and the Wagner group to link up with the troops in Tessalit. Since then there has been a process of military reinforcement and the return of institutions to the northern cities, as evidenced by the Wagner flag being raised at the fort of Kidal (, ). At the beginning of February, government forces began combing and reconnaissance operations in the desert, reaching areas controlled by JNIM and Tuareg rebels near the Algerian border. However, the intention is not yet to expand control over this vast territory, as the capabilities of the insurgent groups remain strong and the desert presents a suitable scenario for attacking military convoys, as on the Aguelhok-Tessalit road on 19 January.
