Building and the Environment: A Medieval Pilot Study | Earth Day at The Met Cloisters

Join art historian Vibeke Olson for a discussion of medieval French building practices and their complex relationship to the environments in which construction took place. Through a case study of the church of Saint Pons in Baugy, France, discover how climate change impacted building in the 11th century and the ways in which medieval builders adapted to the environment in which they worked. Consider too how changes in the landscape in later periods complicate our understanding of the construction process in the Middle Ages.
