Laura Branigan ~ Gloria 1982 Disco Purrfection Version

Here is my second Flashdance revisioning, a song that appeared in the movie but was not included on the soundtrack, Laura Branigan’s “Gloria“ from 1982. Originally an Italian dance song by Umberto Tozzi, it was given that “American kick“ treatment for Laura and gave her a #2 Hot 100 hit. “Gloria“ was used to great effect in “Flashdance“ setting up the excitement of Jeanie’s skating competition with its energy. It made the scene feel more disappointing when Jeanie fell the second time and had to be helped off the ice. As for “Gloria“ on the charts, it took 21 weeks to reach #2, the longest time any song had taken to reach its peak. It stayed on the charts for 36 weeks going platinum by the time it fell off the Hot 100. Laura’s official contribution to “Flashdance“ was the song “Imagination“ produced by Phil Ramone, was not released as a single.
