This is a poem from the Three Kingdoms period, written by Cao Zhi, a writer of Cao Wei son of Cao Cao. It tells of a young youxia warrior defending the state against barbarian invaders. The youxia were a kind of warrior in ancient China, not dissimilar to langrén/rōnin in Japan and knight-errants in Europe. For information, see the wikipedia. For a full explanation of the poem, see Baidu. 白马篇/22087 Many thanks to the honorable Sergeant Lemon for translation help! Seriously, without him I wouldn't have been able to do ANY of this.
