The first mention of Bologoye in historic records dates back to 1495, which is considered the year of the settlement’s foundation. In 1851, Bologoye became a station on the Moscow-Saint Petersburg Railway, being approximately half-way between the two cities. For maintenance of the railway, warehouses, workshops, depots and various service buildings were established. The advent of the railroad served as an impetus to the rapid development of the settlement. In 1876 a railway hospital, one of the first in Russia followed in 1879 with the establishment of a railway technical school, the third in Russia. In 1879 the Rybinsk-Pskov-Vindava railway passed through Bologoye, turning the town into a large railway junction. On June 3, 1917,
