(21 Mar 2014) US First Lady Michelle Obama met Chinese President Xi Jinping on the first day of her visit to China on Friday. Accompanied by his wife Peng Liyuan, Xi had a group photo with Obama, her mother Marian Shields Robinson and two daughters Sasha and Malia. In the meeting, Xi recalled his meeting with President Obama at Sunnylands estate in California last June and asked Michelle Obama to come back to China with her husband in November when Beijing hosts this year's APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) leaders' summit. Michelle Obama arrived in Beijing on Thursday. She visited a high school in Beijing and toured the Forbidden City earlier on Friday with Chinese First Lady Peng Liyuan. The visit marks the first meeting between Obama and Peng, whose husbands run the world's first and second largest economies and have sought to build a new relationship based on trust and mutual respect.
