What a pleasant way to spend the May Day weekend, playing and recording a few tunes up on Dartmoor with my fellow cittern player Tony Bayliss (despite the occasional hail). In between bouts of hedge laying and so on we often get the citterns out, and I love the way the two instruments interact, blending together but also showing their very different characteristics at the same time. The slow reel is “Sir David Davidson of Cantray“ attributed to Scottish dancing master John Lowe, and the second tune “Garryowen“ is an old jig popular in the Irish tradition and also often used as a marching tune. Recorded at Langaford Farm on Dartmoor, with many thanks to Peter Bingham for sound engineering and camerawork.
