Yesterday, a clear sky was visible over vast areas of the country. The surface temperature dropped, as there were almost no clouds, so that heat would not be radiated from the earth into space. In the city of Sibecha in Hokkaido, a temperature of minus 12 degrees Celsius was recorded. Temperatures dropped to 9 degrees in the northern Japanese city of Morioka, to 10 degrees in Nara. Nighttime lows were as cool as those usually recorded from early to mid-January. The weather was perfect in most parts of the country. But in northern Japan, it rained or snowed along the Sea of Japan coast and in some mountainous regions. The agency urges people to watch out for frozen roads.
