Algerian boxer Imane Khelif has won a gold medal in Olympic women’s boxing, despite the controversy surrounding the athlete’s gender. Welterweight Khelif and Chinese Taipei featherweight Lin Yu-ting were disqualified by the IBA during last year’s World Championships for failing to meet gender eligibility criteria. However, financial and corruption concerns led to the IBA being expelled last year by the International Olympic Committee, which instead administered the boxing programme which allowed Khelif and Lin to compete at Paris 2024 as it has different gender eligibility criteria. Talk’s Julia Hartley-Brewer is joined by The Critic’s Jo Bartosch to discuss Khelif’s controversial victory. Jo says: “It’s staggering hypocrisy… at the same time as the IOC going on about the ‘most gender-equal Olympics ever’, we’ve essentially had domestic violence made into a spectator sport.” Click here for more from Talk If you need any help visit:
