This procession was right behind us as we walked towards the church, to my amazement. Unbeknownst to us, it was Jerusalem Day, so the festivities were everywhere. For Christians, the heart of the Old City of Jerusalem is the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre, known by the locals as the “Church of the Resurrection.”: inside, there is the Calvary, the place of the crucifixion and death of Jesus, and the Tomb of Jesus, from which the Son of God arose on the third day. The two Holy Places are related and inseparable, as is the Paschal mystery of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which took place there and which takes place continuously.
