Icelandic Volcano Finally Erupts After Weeks Of Activity Massive plumes of ash and lava are spewing out of a volcano 40km from the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik after weeks of seismic activity forced the nearby fishing town of Grindavik to be evacuated. The eruption began late on Monday night, a few kilometers from Grindavik. Although the town and a nearby geothermal spa have effectively been shut down, Reykjavik airport remains open with several delays. The Met Office explained that the underground magma is shifting towards Grindavik with up to 200 cubic meters of lava spewing out per second, several times more than previous eruptions. At the same time, the crack that appeared in the ground weeks ago is now long. Subscribe to RT Источник: RT News
