This video is about Alfred Jarry's grotesque play Ubu Roi, or Ubu the King. Jarry drew from traditions of puppet theartre, medieval folk culture, and some popular horror theatre of his own late nineteenth century to construct Papa and Mama Ubu. They are greedy, gluttonous, violent, ambitious, cowardly, etc. The play is basically a Macbeth adaptation, but with any nobility stripped out and replaced with a very earthy and obscene physicality. *If you’d like to reference this information or would like to ask me a direct questions for an assignment you are working on, that’s awesome and I am glad to help.
