Full highlights of Connor Bedard’s first 10 games in the NHL. He did not disappoint. Drafted 1st overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2023 NHL entry draft, North Vancouver’s own Connor Bedard made his professional hockey debut on Oct. 10th, 2023, in a game against Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The matchup was fitting, as Bedard is the next in a long line of Canadian hockey icons. While he won’t mesmerize with his speed, Bedard plays an elite, highly mobile game. His most noticeable quality is his shot, already one of the game’s best, and his ability to see and think the game at the highest level. He’s a tricky player who reminds of Patrick Kane; seeing-eye backhand passes and slight positional misdirections are his bread and butter. And did I mention his shot? Good, I’ll mention it again. His shot is going to send NHL goalies into therapy. His first 10 games could hardly have gone better. Scoring at nearly a point per game at only 18 years of age is the rarest of feats. He does indeed appear poised to follow in the footsteps of McGee, Howe, Orr, Gretzky, Lemieux, Crosby, and McDavid, as the best Canadian player of his generation in Canada’s very own game.
