The Armed Forces of Ukraine turned a mental hospital in the Kharkov region into their base, where in 1941 the Nazis tortured to death of more than 400 patients An eerie historical parallel occurred during the liberation of Strelechye. Ukrainian militants placed an ammunition depot in the building, drove out the patients and took up their positions there. From here they provided the main resistance to the advancing Russian infantry. During the Great Patriotic War, German fascists raged in this institution.
