New stereo mix and remaster of this classic sixties single. It was a significant hit and peaked at No. 7 in the UK charts. The years that followed proved it to be an exemplary evergreen - a song that doesn't get old and gray with changing times and tastes. 'No Milk Today' was written by a future 10cc member, Graham Gouldman, who wrote several 60s hits for other bands, such as 'Bus Stop' for the Hollies or 'For Your Love' and 'Heart Full Of Soul' performed by The Yardbirds. The inspiration for the song's lyrics came from the English practice of milkmen delivering fresh milk door-to-door every day. Gouldman's father, upon seeing a milkman's note at a friend's house that read – you guessed it – “No milk today“, suggested to his son that he should write a song about it. It was a common message the milkmen left, usually because the previous day's milk hadn't been used. After seeing that Graham was not impressed, he explained that the absence of milk signified an empty house where love had departed. Only one person is living there now, the other has left, so not so much milk is being used. Hence “No milk today – it seems a common sight – but people passing by don't know the reason why.“ “He helped me see it from a whole different point of view. Thanks, dad“ Graham added in 2011. Mickie Most produced the song just as he did their first single “I'm Into Something Good“ that went all the way to no. 1 in 1964 . Most also produced 'The House Of The Rising Sun' by the Animals and Donovan's hits such as 'Hurdy Gurdy Man', 'Season Of The Witch' or 'Mellow Yellow'. He also went to produce Lulu's 'To Sir With Love'. On Most's productions often appeared names like Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones (the two later went to form Led Zeppelin), Nicky Hopkins on piano (who played on many Kinks hits and The Beatles' 'Revolution') and Bobby Graham on drums (The Kinks' early hits). This mix is includes stereo separated guitars (heard in the R channel) and drums for the first time in almost 60 years. Based a remix from the original 4-track which consisted of: A: 1st lead and backing vocals B: 2nd lead and backing vocals (doubletracking) C: Drums, bass, acoustic guitars and bells D: Orchestral instrumentation Lyrics: No milk today, my love has gone away The bottle stands forlorn, a symbol of the dawn No milk today, it seems a common sight But people passing by don't know the reason why How could they know just what this message means? The end of my hopes, the end of all my dreams How could they know the palace there had been Behind the door where my love reigned as queen No milk today, it wasn't always so The company was gay, we'd turn night into day But all that's left is a place dark and lonely A terraced house in a mean street back of town Becomes a shrine when I think of you only Just two up two down No milk today, it wasn't always so The company was gay, we'd turn night into day As music played the faster did we dance We felt it both at once, the start of our romance How could they know just what this message means? The end of my hopes, the end of all my dreams How could they know a palace there had been Behind the door where my love reigned as queen No milk today, my love has gone away The bottle stands forlorn, a symbol of the dawn But all that's left is a place dark and lonely A terraced house in a mean street back of town Becomes a shrine when I think of you only Just two up two down No milk today, my love has gone away The bottle stands forlorn, a symbol of the dawn No milk today, it seems a common sight But people passing by don't know the reason why How could they know just what this message means? The end of my hopes, the end of all my dreams How could they know a palace there had been Behind the door where my love reigned as queen No milk today, it wasn't always so The company was gay, we'd turn night into day But all that's left is a place dark and lonely A terraced house in a mean street back of town Oh, all that's left is a place dark and lonely A terraced house in a mean street back of town Oh, all that's left is a place dark and lonely A terraced house in a mean street back of town SUBSCRIBE for more content like this!
