The Story of the Club-Footed Grocer first appeared in The Strand Magazine in 1898, and was the sixth story in Round the Fire, a collection of short stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. This is a great tale of adventure and skulduggery, set in London and somewhere on the wild moors in the North of England, perhaps not too far from Morecambe Bay. An estranged uncle summons his nephew to his aid by letter and telegram. The tale is reminiscent of Robert Louis Stevenson's adventures with the tension building towards a sickening climax. Listen as I run through the full gamut of my character voices from A to B! It is read by Greg Wagland. © Magpie Audio 2020 The artwork is by the great Leeds artist John Atkinson Grimshaw 'The Thames Below London Bridge'.
