Check out our Gun Apparel at: We ship worldwide. The M1 carbine was a lightweight semi-automatic carbine that was used by the U.S. military from 1942 until 1973. It was chambered in .30 Carbine (×33mm) and was a standard firearm for the U.S. military during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Prior to World War II, U.S. Army Ordnance received reports that the full-size M1 rifle was too heavy and cumbersome for most support troops (staff, mortarmen, radiomen, etc.) to carry. During field exercises, it was found that the M1 Garand impeded these soldiers’ mobility. This generated a request for a new compact infantry weapon to equip support troops. The request called for a lightweight defensive weapon with greater range, accuracy and firepower than handguns.
