Stumps where wood should be. More than four million hectares of the Earth’s tropical forest has been destroyed in a year, that equates to a land mass the size of Switzerland. Scientists have calculated that there was 10% less rain forest in 2022 than a year earlier. The destruction led to the almost three gigatons of carbon dioxide being released. The pace of such forestation loss on the planet is only increasing. People who have long lived near deforestation sites suffer from the devastation. Find out more about this growing global problem from our video and film, ‘Spoils of Destruction’ (2018).
