“Rock and Roll“ is the music that became popular in the 1950s and came to define the most important style of pop music. The phrase “rocking and rolling“ originally described the movement of a ship on the ocean, but by the early 20th century was used to describe both the spiritual fervor of black church rituals as well as being used as a sexual analogy. “rhythm and blues“ was used since before it became popular among listeners. Revivals, blues, and swing had the phrase in titles or lyrics before it became a trend.. Rock and roll - the predecessor of rhythm and blues music - is said to be attributed to a 1940s band from Mississippi. 1943 saw the establishment of “Rock and Roll Inn“ in South Merchantville, New Jersey, as a music venue.
