Genesis Venue: La Ferme V Location: Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, Belgium Date: March 7th, 1971 Audience recording Audio Quality: B This is the earliest recording we have of Genesis playing live, and the only Trespass show on recording. We’re very lucky to even have this show, as it was the first one the band did overseas. They had gone over to Belgium to do a TV performance the following day, but they also did a one off live show. Steve was in the band for barely 2 months at this point, which really puts into perspective how early this truly is. The real gem of this show, however, is the only known recording of a song called The Light, which is literally a prototype version of Lilywhite Lilith. We don’t even have a studio version of this song, so it’s amazing we even have this on here. The non-album track Going Out to Get You also makes a rare appearance, which really just adds to the whole set list. A pre-release version of The Musical Box is also performed (Nursery Cryme wouldn’t come out until November), which is just like the BBC version, featuring a different structure to the song, unfinished lyrics, among other goodies. All in all, this show is outstanding, with the band in amazing form. Steve in particular does one of his spiciest solos for The Knife, but really, so much can be said about this performance - a must listen for any Genesis fan. 0:00 Introduction 1:15 Happy the Man 6:20 Stagnation 18:07 The Light (only known performance) 29:18 Twilight Alehouse 41:34 The Musical Box 54:46 The Knife 1:05:22 Going Out to Get You Download: #9tUcdYEW9qKNOQX7-XuXCw
