Hank Jones - Jesper Lundgard - Vienne 1994 Douglas Joseph Sides is an American jazz drummer and composer, born on October 10, 1942, in Los Angeles, California. He began playing the piano at a young age and later became interested in playing timpani and drums. Sides attended the University of Southern California (USC), New York University (NYU), and Berklee College of Music. In the early 1960s, Sides played with numerous well-known musicians such as Illinois Jacquet, Teddy Edwards, Lionel Hampton, Johnny Griffin, Howard Rumsey, Curtis Amy, Harold Land, Sonny Stitt, Charles Kynard, and Buddy Collette. He did his first recording session with saxophonist Johnny Griffin in 1962 on the album “Grab This!“ and worked on saxophonist Curtis Amy's “Katanga!“ in February 1963.
