Pearl Mosaic is a traditional Vietnamese art form that embeds pearl shells over various surfaces to create visually striking compositions. Inlaying shells requires a step-by-step process requiring skilled craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail. We visited Nguyen Xuan Dung in the village Chuon Ngo in Hanoi, Vietnam who has been working as a pearl inlay artisan for nearly 40 years and is the 5th generation in his family dedicated to the craft. The craft is deeply rooted in the country’s culture with a history of 1000 years!. However, it is struggling to stay alive with changing times. Chuon Ngo holds a reputation as a pearl mosaic village that has developed a knack for pearl mosaic art. Many families have been working on the craft for generations and keeping it alive!
