Видео на английском - как отмечают Рождество и Новый год в Англии Англичанин рассказывает, как отмечают Новый год и Рождество в Англии Hello everybody, I’m going to quickly explain today about the difference between Christmas and New Year here in the United Kingdom. We celebrate both, but in slightly different ways. So, Christmas Eve is on the 24th ofDecember, Christmas Day is the 25th, and Boxing Day is the 26th. New Year’s Eve is the 31st of December, and New Year’s Day is the 1st. So Christmas is a time that we will usually spend with our families. On Christmas Eve, normally you have to work, unless you have a special arrangement in place with your boss, and then on Christmas Day everybody always gets the day off, and on Boxing Day too. So Christmas is a time that you spend with your family, and then New Year’s Eve is often a time that you spend with your friends - going out, drinking, having fun, partying. So New Year’s Eve, again like Christmas Eve, is just a standard day, not a national holiday, just a normal day, and normally you will have to work - unless you have a deal with your boss. And then New Year’s Day is a national holiday, so everybody will get New Year’s Day off. So just think of Christmas as the family event, and New Year’s Eve as the friends / partying event. Christmas… you will often wear festive clothing: a christmas jumper; you will eat fairly traditional festive food, like roast dinner, mince pies; you will give presents to each other; you will have a Christmas tree; and you will have Christmas with your family. New Year’s Eve… there’s no presents, there’s no trees, there’s no special clothing - it’s just partying! So that is the main difference between Christmas and New Year’s in the United Kingdom.
