Our thoughts and Prayers go out to the Smyth County community, family, friends and co-workers of the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office deputy who lost their life in the line of duty today. We also send Prayers for a successful and speedy recovery to the deputy who was also wounded. Virginia: Smyth County deputy was killed and another injured, according to a member of the general assembly, District 6 Senator Todd Pillion. There has been a large police presence near the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office since around 5 p.m. Details of what happened remain unclear, but scanner traffic indicated shots were exchanged between the deputies and another person.
