Ancient most terrifying sound in the world recreated

Warning: this post may contain sounds that some people deem really, really scary It’s called the Aztec Death Whistle, and it sounds exactly as it, er, sounds. First discovered in 1999 and thought to be a mere toy, and then discovered in 2014 to be a whistle and not just a scary looking toy with a hole in it, the death whistle makes the sound like a woman screaming in absolute agony, only slightly more distorted and wrong sounding. Now, thanks to occasionally-not-ratioed-for-being-completely-wrong YouTuber The Action Lab (who previously brought the world ‘What is the Difference Between Yellow and Yellow?’ and ‘Does Water Float?’), we can all ‘enjoy’ the sounds of the scariest sound to ever make sound. The whistle consists of two chambers that, despite their simplicity, model the human larynx particularly well. Or at least models the larynx of an exceptionally distressed woman particularly well. Some examples include small balls of cork or other soft materials to add distortion and extra horror to the sound. Archaeologists think that the whistles were used as part of funeral rites, warfare, or part of religious celebrations. Or perhaps, they were used to really, really scare someone by sneaking up on them and blowing into the whistle really loudly. Er, don’t do that, please.
