Exultant Sporting CP fans took to the streets of Lisbon on Sunday night to celebrate the club's 20th Primeira Liga title, together with the squad. The newly-crowned champions paraded through a crowd of tens of thousands of fans, in Marques de Pombal square, the traditional spot where both Sporting and Benfica celebrate their titles. Ruben Amorim’s squad claimed their domestic crown after beating Portimonense 3-0 earlier on Saturday but had to wait for Benfica to lose 2-0 at Famalicao on Sunday. Only a victory by Benfica would have prevented Sporting from celebrating. Sporting sit on top of the Primeira Liga table, 8 points clear of city rivals Benfica, with two rounds to go. The “Lions” also have a chance to add the Taça de Portugal (Portuguese Cup) title if they beat Porto in the final scheduled for May 26th.
