This year, the contest introduced a new category to celebrate diverse forms of visual storytelling: the Open Format category. The Open Format category welcomes a range and/or mixture of storytelling mediums, such as polyptychs; multiple exposure images; stitched panoramas; photographic collages; interactive documentaries; and short documentary videos of up to 15 minutes. The main visual content of the project must be still photography, but can be presented in combination with video, animation, graphics, illustrations, sound or text. All projects will be eligible for the World Press Photo Open Format award, carrying a prize of €6,000. Find out more about categories and prizes:
