모란봉악단 - 샘물터에서 Music: Yun Sung-jin (윤승진) 1952 Text: Choe Ro-sa (최로사) Recorded: Mokran Video DPRK A very catchy song about a young beautiful girl who does everything she can for the soldiers of her nation. Written right in the middle of the devastating Korean war it must have helped the people to cheer up a little. Here Pak Mi-kyong gets a chance to really show her high soft soprano voice, clear as spring water. In the first verse the girl meets a handsome soldier who has taken off his clothes to wash them in the water. She gets over her natural shyness and boldly offer to help... The song she sings for the soldiers in the second verse is Nodul Riverside. A song about hardship, lost love and our inevitable death, all in contrast to the happy mode of this song itself. You can listen to Nodul Riverside at • Nodul riverside - Moranbong Band and ... . The second version (by Song So-hee) is perhaps closer to the original. She also sings all three verses. The azaleas she gives to the soldiers in the third verse symbolizes a desire they should all eventually return back to their homes. If I’m not mistaken they actually show daisies on the backdrop instead. I wonder why? innocence, perhaps? But at the end they finally show azaleas, too. Generally great care is taken to every detail in these videos.
