Vitamin D is very important in child’s development. It helps in the bone development, calcium metabolism and immune system regulation . The child can receive Vitamin D through breast milk or sunlight exposure. As the sunlight exposure in the newborns is restricted, the child is dependent on the mother for Vitamin D through breast milk . Most of the mothers are nowadays Vitamin D deficient due to our lifestyle changes has decreased the sun exposure. So, it is important to give the child Vitamin D supplements , otherwise there will be Vitamin D deficiency in the baby. Normal newborn from 0 to 1 month of age requires 300 to 400 International Units of Vitamin D per day. So, standard vitamin D drops which contains 400 international Units of Vitamin D, it will be 0.8 ml to the child everyday till he is around 1 year of age.
