RUSSIA: CHECHNYA: 4TH ANNIVERSARY OF SELF PROCLAIMED INDEPENDENCE

(6 Sep 1995) Russian/Nat Rebel Chechen leader Dzhokhar Dudayev has threatened to bring his battle to Russia if the Russians don’t give up their battle for the breakaway republic. The statement coincided with the fourth anniversary of self-proclaimed independence in Chechnya and thousands took to the streets of the capital to mark the event. Emotions ran high in Grozny as Chechens marked their fourth anniversary of nominal freedom from Russia. With the ruins of the presidential palace as a backdrop providing a stark reminder of the war against Moscow, around 4-thousand people gathered in a fierce show of pride and patriotism.
