However, on the Tibetan Plateau north of Ruoergai in Sichuan Province, China, we found two that were anything but. Before dawn we had seen one by spotlight but then two were seen by daylight. These cats are only the size of a large domestic cat and so the video was taken from a distance to ensure they were not scared off. Pallas’s Cat is said to be solitary so we assumed that the two we saw together were a mother and her well-grown offspring. The whole area we were in was alive with Plateau Pikas which do not hibernate and are one of the main items in the cats’ diet In winter Pallas’s Cat has the incredibly thick fur you can see in the video. You can also see the distinctive markings and flat face. When walking they have the appearance of a miniature Snow Leopard. They are animals of the steppes of Central Asia and have been recorded as high as 5,000 metres (these were at about 3,500 metres
