Filmed at Wingspan, near Rotorua New Zealand, April 2017. Wingspan Bird of Prey Centre was established in Rotorua in 2002, and is now recognised as New Zealand’s leading conservation, education and research organisation for birds of prey. They are committed to the conservation of the threatened New Zealand falcon. The New Zealand falcon, or kārearea in Māori (Falco novaeseelandiae), is New Zealand's only falcon. Other common names for the bird are bush hawk and sparrow hawk. It is the country’s most threatened bird of prey, with only around 3000–5000 breeding pairs remaining. Wingspan supports wild populations directly by releasing captive bred falcons and rehabilitating injured wild birds, and supports long-term sustainable conservation action by identifying the reasons for the decline in wild populations and promoting action to reverse this.
