The Kingdom of Croatia and Slavonia is a state entity within Austria-Hungary. It was formed in 1868 as a result of the unification of the kingdoms of Croatia and Slavonia, formerly part of the Habsburg Monarchy, into one administrative-territorial unit. The kingdom had autonomy. Among the Slavic peoples living on the territory of Austria-Hungary, the Croats had the widest rights, while the rights of their closest neighbors, the Serbs, were constantly infringed upon by the Austrian authorities. After the collapse of Austria-Hungary in 1918, Croatian politicians advocated the creation of a unified South Slavic state. The lands of Croatia and Slavonia became part of the State of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes - the future Yugoslavia. The Kingdom of Croatia and Slavonia had two hymns: the imperial hymn “Bože živi, Bože štiti“ (“God save life, God save“ - Croatian translation of the Austrian hymn “Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser“ (“God save Emperor Franz“), introduced in this video, and the anthem “Lijepa naša domovino“ (“Our Beautiful Homeland“).
