The locals called it “Snow Island“ among themselves, which sounded pretty good. Yes, and there were not very many local residents here, only 17 people with me. I did not consider myself a local, because I did not give up hope of ever getting out of here, but it was not so easy. Besides, I really liked it here. The nature here is amazing, forest, river, mountains, incredibly clean air, and it snowed for nine months of the year. Exactly three years ago I came here in search of my beloved, but unfortunately I did not find her here. Then I decided to wait, as the locals told me that she had left the village for a while and should return soon. I rented one of the many empty houses here, and waited. Weeks passed, then months, but Rebecca (that was her name) never arrived. At some point, I lost hope, and decided to return back to the city, but then again I received news of the imminent return of Rebecca. At that time there were no mobile phones, social networks, and even regular mail did not work stably, so finding a person was not an easy task. So my wait dragged on for more than a year, I was already used to this area, to the neighbors, and the mere thought of returning to the city frightened me. I was attracted by the very stay here, life here was completely different than in the city. I even managed to find an occupation for myself here, which brought me good money by those standards. I was engaged in fishing and selling natural forest teas. I sold all the products to my neighbor Charlie, and he, in turn, once every two weeks went to the city and sold it at a double mark-up. And I felt good, and Charlie got a good income from this. On the way back, Charlie brought food for the villagers by order. In general, Charlie was a very enterprising person, and at the same time helped the people of Snow Island. It was good here, in my free time, I read my favorite books, listened to the radio, cooked food, chopped firewood. And in the evenings, all the villagers gathered at someone's house, talked, had fun, and played board games. Sometimes it seemed that this village lives in parallel with the whole other world.
