Band: Грай Album: Млада Genre: Folk Metal Country: Russia Year: 2014 Get it here: * * Websites: * * GRAI ARE Irina Zybina (vocals) Ruzel “Ruzveld“ (guitar) Aliya “Leta“ (flutes, bag-pipes, vocals) Yuri “Sadist“ (bass, growls, kaljuka, jew's harp) Andrey Smirnov (drums) BIOGRAPHY Spirited and heady: That’s what Folk-Metal from Russia sounds like! Vivid and thoughtful, swift and soulful – the music of GRAI (engl. “Raven Cry”) is full of contrasting elements! The quintet from the Republic of Tartary in the east of Russia stands for a multifaceted mixture of delicate folklore sounds and powerful metal. GRAI’s folk-metal is artless and natural – and does perfectly well without the typical pagan drinking song cliché! Founded in 2005, GRAI can already look back on an EP and two albums, as well as numerous festival shows and concerts alongside bands such as Arkona, Dalriada or Alestorm. Irina Zybina (vocals), Ruzel “Ruzveld” (guitar), Aliya “Leta” (flutes, bag-pipes, vocals), Yuri “Sadist” (bass, growls, kaljuka) and Andrey Smirnov (drums) combine “classic” metal elements like heavy e-guitar riffing, massive drums and harsh growls with traditional folkloristic instruments and clear, polyphonic female vocals. The songs tell about the affinity to nature, the soul of the native land and a time, in which the sword was a symbol of wit and power; the Russian lyrics are sometimes cheerful, sometimes thought-provoking and sometimes patriotic. After signing with NOIZGATE Records in 2014, the next project is about to be due for GRAI: The band will release their third studio album MLADA (engl. approx. “Beautiful young girl”) on October 3rd, 2014! As guitarist Ruzel states:”MLADA will be multifarious and lively, with songs full of mirth, dance, action and rhythm. But it will include some slower, more contemplative tunes, as well. Besides nine brand new songs, comprising two instrumental tracks, the album will also contain two bonus tracks: “V Objatyach Mary” (engl. “In The Arms Of Mara“), for which we shot a video clip, too, and „Yaz‘“, a very comic song about fishing!” And by the way: Right on time with their album release GRAI are planning their next big tour in Europe for September / October 2014! - Recorded at White Blossom and Kamysh Studio. Она с верой в сердце ждет, Бурю обнимая. Где ж его ладья плывет, Волны рассекая? Ветер парус яро рвет Во краю далеком. Она в шторм на скалах ждет. Она в шторм на скалах ждет, Скованная роком. Предков перст ладью ведёт Во море широком. --------------------------------------------- The northern wind roars, Lifting the Waves. She waits with belief in her heart. Hugging the storm. Where does his bark float, Plowing the Waves? In the faraway Land The wind tears the sail hard. She waits on rocks in a storm. Held down by her fate. The voice of ancestors leads his bark In the sea. ------------------------------------------
